Let’s get together!
Singing rehearsals
Thursdays from 8:00
The Costa Barber Singers hold rehearsals on Thursdays from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Recibar La Torre in Benissa.
Not everyone can come every week, and we have a break in July and August, but if you turn up on a Thursday evening you can see what the atmosphere is like and quickly find out if this is for you.
‘I know nothing about Barbershop singing’
You don't need to know anything about Barbershop. Most members of the chorus had only the vaguest idea when they joined themselves.
For singers only?
All visitors are welcome. Even if you don't fancy joining in, you will get some splendid free entertainment. There is nothing like the sense of personal contact you get when listening to a group of people singing in harmony, without any instrumental accompaniment.![]()

Geoff Comer
Geoff was born in Bristol; he started singing at school and in a church choir. He returned to singing in later life with Highgate Choral Society, concentrating on big choral works. Moving to Spain in 2004 and looking for something different, he joined the Costa Barber chorus as (in his words) “a growling bass.” At our 2011 AGM he was presented with a Barbershopper of the Year award for his work with Noteworthy software.
Brian Norbury
Brian sang and studied music for 4 years at school in Kirkby Lonsdale. (He played the violin.) He worked for 32 years for British Airways (BOAC when he joined) rising to Cabin Service Director. Newly arrived on the Costa Blanca, he took part in singing lessons organised by the landlord of his local bar, thus catching the notice of Roger Gallant. Brian also now sings with the CB Male Voice Choir.
Gerard van Maurik
Gerard is 81 years young, and the senior member of the Costa Barber chorus, who will have younger knees than most other members of the group—when the surgeons have finished with him! A resident of Utrecht, he worked with the family wholesale fish company—except when he “joined the fish” and played water polo for his country. Guitarist Gerard and his late wife moved to Moraira in 1988: he has sung with the Costa Barber Singers ever since.
